Blue Mountains Day Trip – Wentworth Falls

Blue Mountains sounds like a huge place, with so many possible hiking trails. There are also many guided tours from the city. Our preferred style, whenever possible, is to venture out and explore on our own. Sure we might miss out some interesting check points, but the experience of getting there and using google map is pretty satisfying too. It takes 2.5 hours by train each way, from the suburb we are staying. Mindful of that time and the daylight hours, we finally decided to check out Wentworth Falls area, leaving Katoomba for the next visit.

From Strathfield Station, we head towards the platform for the west-bound BMT trains. They are different from those we have become familiar with! Still double deckled, it appeared to be the older versions with manual doors. Check out the video ..

After a long journey through the countryside, we finally arrived at Wentworth Falls station. From the station, follow along the Darwin’s walk, passing by rows of houses and shops, which finally leads into the trail head.

It’s April. Weather is perfect! Long stretches of autumn colours too. We enjoyed the sounds of the leaves rustling. We couldn’t help playing with the lovely fallen leaves. But we have just started! Much more ground to cover.

Such pretty colours!

An hour later we finally arrived at the trailhead, and the first lookout point.

Lucky to spot this! Passerby told us it’s called the Lyrebird, the great liar. I thought he’s pulling my leg

The trails area all well-marked and clear signages along the way. We had wanted to exit at Empress Falls side, to catch the highly raved Mountain Pies. Unfortunately due to time constraints, we decided to do the undercliff track, before turning back to jamison and back to Wentworth Lookout. It’s just a small section, with its wow moments! Would definitely need more time here!
