Train ride to Selenge

We did a 2D2N trip to Selenge, the town sharing borders with Russia. I’m excited, always looking forward to train journeys! This train goes Northwards from Ulanbaatar. The last station within Mongolia is at Sukhbaatar, the capital of Selenge Province in northern Mongolia, passing by Selenge River enroute. I wish one day to be able to do the trans-Siberian from Beijing through Mongolia and into Russia!

The route up North, from Ulanbaator to Sukhbaatar, the capital of Selenge Province, 12 hours journey
That’s us, waiting to board
Stopping in the market next door for snacks and supplies

Bunk beds in our carriage. Four beds facing one another, no partition or rooms in this carriage. Otherwise it’s clean and comfortable, with fresh bedlinen and blanket, and a good size table in between. There’s also little racks and hooks for our belongings

Storage under the bed. Looks like no storage space for the person booking the upper berth?
Height is enough for us sitting up, again not for the upper berth

We have a little visitor from the next bed, attracted by my selfie stick. He spent most of the time running up and down the aisle. Mum must be glad to have the older siblings taking care of him!

it’s nice seeing the scenary unfold outside- fields changing to lakes to grazing animals

horses at a waterhole. Wished I was faster to capture this on video
Somewhere in the middle, that family got off. I couldn’t help picturing the little girl galloping on the horses! She’s been so agile and swinging amongst the bunks
Finally we arrived at Sukhbaatar station, and headed to our resort. This time we picked a hut instead of the ger
Dinner! Luckily Zulaa brought cup noodles! It was delicious!
Devices were hungry too!
I love this drawing! It’s similar to those we used to draw, except different house. Does it mean children are the same despite nationality?
Our wooden hut, also with a fireplace in the centre

Next morning I was up at 5.30am, but already missed the sunrise! Too early!

And then the horses came!

Brushing teeth, washing hair and bathing – all done here. But it’s 13C, for me ok to go without a bath

After checking out, we proceeded to Saikhanii Khutuul National Park, right next to the Russian border

A scenic view from the Park, with Russia at the back drop. Also where Orkhon and Selenge River meets

Stopped in Selenge town for lunch, and the marketplace

Something mesmerizing about all these boots!

Next we headed into a pine forests, one managed jointly by Mongolia and Korea

I didn’t expect to be able to play in sand dunes here! Crazy fun here before we head back to the train station!
