3D2N Malacca

Malacca has been a childhood favourite. We did many trips here when the girls were little, including one by train to Tampin, the KTMB station that is nearest to here.

Used to stay either at Equatorial, which is now closed, or the family hotel opposite. Nowadays we much prefer airbnb. With the many condo developments, there are many, with good facilities. We booked a suite in Imperio Residence on the first night, unit for 4 pax, complete with jacuzzi, pool and facilities which we did not have time to use.

Second night, we booked another fun unit – this time at MyKey Apple, the attic. We fall in love with the spiral staircase!

For food, the must go for are satay celop and chicken rice ball. We just love them, and it’s almost a crime to miss these! The usual one Capitol Satay has been closed for a while, we found a new location in Google, but it isn’t the same. Menu is different, taste is different, even beer has disappeared. Then we found Ban Lee Siang, 3 units of the same name, opened by brothers and uncles. There is a story of who the original, and the disputes. Yet the two brothers continue to operate side by side, one aircon, while the uncle just down the street.

Satay Celop – sticks of food in the chiller, grab a tray and take what you want
when they were little, we ask for cups of hot water to dip the cooked sticks – reducing the spice level. I can’t tell if they still have them here?
This shop, you can choose to have new gravy or “used” gravy, and welcome to bring home if you opt for the new one

We read about a kampong style one, unfortunately unable to access. Google sucks at times. The next morning, we did find the correct location, but they only operate 3 times a week, so that will have to be next visit.

The kampong style celop – see the hole in the centre where a hot pot of satay gravy is placed, charcoal below. Now everyone use gas cartridges

Road access via here, turn left after this hawker centre

Next we went to the Coast, in search of Cheng Ho, followed by coconut shake, the first and original one in Klebang. Original or not, it’s such a treat given that weather!

There is also a submarine museum near the Coast. And the Malacca prison in town. Very good exhibits – for some reason, most people seem to miss them out!

Submarine Museum – it’s fun and educational! Took tonnes of photos here because every space is unique and first time
Back to JB, one of our favourite dinner places
my favourite Kueh chap ingredient is the tongue! So rare these days
so inviting! Something about the huge trees, old buildings and open air
