Bogd Khan

Bogd Khan Mountain, 2261m, overlooking Ulanbaatar city just 30 minutes away. It’s the most hiked mountain here, with several trails through pine forests, streams, and moss covered boulders. This is my first trip to Mongolia and my first hike here. I was fortunate to be able to return several times later, experiencing its beauty during different seasons. Each season draws hikers with different intentions, each season offers something different.

We decided to start early to enjoy the best moments, and early sunlight too since it’s summer! At 6.30am, we arrived at the trail head at Zaisan, the prestigious town in UB, to witness the sun peeping through the horizon. Couldn’t wait for sunrise, it’s so cold out in the open! The trail started on tamac route. Once we arrived at the stream and across the bridge, the landscape transformed, and we are quickly brought into the magical pine forests

After this first visit, we returned at least another five times? Or maybe more. Each time we tried something different. Each time we had different photos too!

Here’s some from our first hike!

all ready. The start of the trail passes through a few holiday ger resorts
About an hour into the hike, we arrived at a crowded rest point. Classical music, hot milk tea. Such enterprising students! Pachelbel’s Canon in D – my favourite!

and hiking through pine forests. Saw many squirrels too!

The trails opens to a huge open space, with a few pavilion. Most hikers turn back here. We decided to continue further since there isn’t any open view here.
Entering the pine forests once more, we came into an area with huge rocks formations.

And true enough, a view of the forests at our feet!

When we return on subsequent visits, these areas are full of resorts and residential housing
